Six video guides, half a minute each
Six silent walkthroughs of the KLYRN VM panel, recorded from the panel itself: create a machine, run it, hosts, backups, the customer view, search.
A screenshot shows a page. It does not show what happens when you press something. The guides page now has six short videos, each one task from start to finish.
- Create a machine: the five steps, 38 seconds.
- Run a machine: power, console, backups and resize, 34 seconds.
- Read your hosts: 27 seconds.
- Backups: 26 seconds.
- What your customer sees, then what a reseller sees: 30 seconds.
- Find anything: 19 seconds.
How they are made
Nobody sat and recorded them. A script drives the real panel against a demonstration estate, moves a pointer to each control before pressing it, and puts a caption under every step. When the panel changes, the script is run again and the videos change with it. A step whose button has gone is reported, so a guide cannot quietly lose half of itself.
Why they are silent
So they play in an office and on a phone on a train. Every caption is also written under its video, in order, so the page reads without playing anything and a search engine can read it too.
The estate in them is invented: the hostnames are made up and the addresses come from ranges reserved for documentation.
